About the 2023 $25 Gold Eagles

At 1/2 of an ounce, the $25 face-value Gold Eagle made their debut in 1986 and was first produced following the signing of the Gold Bullion Act in 1985. The 22-karat gold content of this coin is backed by the United States government, as this is one of the country’s official gold bullion coins. Each coin contains its full stated weight of pure gold, and in order to help prevent scratching and marring, it has an added composition of silver and copper to increase durability.

Since gold is a very soft metal, it is extremely rare to find it not mixed with other stabilizing metals. For example, the Gold American Eagle coins contain 91.67% gold (22-karat), 3% silver, and 5.33% copper.
